There are plenty of reasons to own international stocks in a portfolio. Some investors want foreign stocks in their portfolios to round out their exposure to the global stock market and widen their investment opportunity set.
Amy Arnott, Morningstar portfolio strategist, noted recently, “As of September 2025, non-US stocks made up about 37% of global market capitalization. Because international stocks make up a significant portion of the available equity market, it makes sense for most investors to have some exposure to international stocks.”
